In 2015 the City of Bellaire developed an ambitious Parks Master Plan to provide outdoor experiences for Bellaire residents.
The Plan evolved from and earlier Parks Plan with input from members of City Council, past and present members of the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board, and Parks and Recreation staff.
One of the reasons provided for updating the older Master Plan was the increase in size of new homes and lot coverage, thus children living in these homes have smaller yards. This would justify not only upgrading existing parks but also support the need for more parkland and the addition of trails and pathways throughout the City.
No cost estimates were provided, only suggestions of possible funding opportunities (page 41 of the Plan). What do you think? Do we need this amount of park area, or the cost to develop and maintain it? Where do or did your children play?
