CYPRESS DITCH REGIONAL FLOOD MITIGATION PROGRAM (CDP)
The Cypress Ditch Regional Flood Mitigation Program encompasses several capital projects advancing the City’s objective of becoming a more flood-resilient community. The program will improve resiliency within our wastewater and storm sewer systems and allow for future improvements within the City of Bellaire. The Cypress Ditch Program (CDP) is Phase 1 of Bellaire’s Regional Drainage Improvement Program.
The CDP includes the following interrelated projects:
- Cypress Ditch Channel Conveyance Improvement project from S Rice Ave to Brays Bayou
- Demolition of existing buildings on the future site of the South Stormwater Detention Basin
- South Stormwater Detention Basins
- Lift station and force main connection to City of Houston’s southwest wastewater treatment plant
- Decommissioning and demolition of the Bellaire wastewater treatment plant
- North Stormwater Detention Basin
These projects will be funded by a combination of City funds, general obligation bonds, and a direct allocation from the state that will be administered via the Texas Water Development Board (TWDB). With the regional nature of this program, it is only able to be accomplished in partnership with other regional stakeholders such as Harris County Flood Control District, City of Houston and the Texas Department of Transportation.
