Drug Business Operating In Bellaire Residence?

UPDATE 4/24/2024: Channel 11 news reported on the problems, and on a traffic stop and an arrest near the home.  Bellaire Police were called about the property at least 40 times over the past year and recovered a large amount of marijuana at the house. Find the KHOU report here.

UPDATE 4/21/2024: This is in regard to a shooting in front of a house at 4521 Merrie Lane on Saturday, April 13, 2024, around 7:30 PM.  The shooting continued in a car chase down Newcastle to Beechnut. I encourage everyone to view the comments at the April 15th City Council meeting.

The house is used by EMF, which apparently stands for Edwards Marijuana Family. For me these comments raise important questions regarding communication by our police chief and the actions of BPD.  Most of the City’s personnel, including the police and fire departments, answer to the City Manager, who in turn answers to the Mayor and members of City Council.

Apparently, until a few days ago the Mayor was unaware of the problems with the shooting, with a drug house on Merrie Lane, or with a connection to a recent raid on a marijuana business located on Renwick in Houston. Later in the Council meeting he mentions the FBI, however I’m still not sure who is investigating this shooting.

Neighbors have reported problems on Merrie Lane for about a year, but it took a shooting to make the Mayor aware of this problem. Find a link to the Bellaire zoning ordinance for home businesses hereBased on the reports from residents at the April 20, 2024, community meeting this ordinance could have been enforced, especially C. Limitation on home occupations. Any home occupation is prohibited when: (1) The home occupation causes, by reason of its existence, a noticeable increase in the number of motor vehicles traveling to and from the home or on the public streets surrounding or abutting the home;

View the Council meeting here, move to public comments for the meeting (about 1:30 into the meeting), not the compensation portion.  Find a Channel 13 report from April 18, 2024, here.  I’m not sure if the community meeting that was held on April 20, 2024, was taped for viewing, but will check.  Bellaire residents spoke about problems ranging from vehicle thefts to violent home burglaries.

The property may be coming back on the market.

My online research turned up some basic facts about medical marijuana in Texas:
