Updates On 2024 Bond Funds and Certificates of Obligation

UPDATE 12/17/2024: On December 16, 2024, City Council unanimously approved the issuance of $7 million in Certificates of Obligation for the purchase of a property at 5233-5235 Glenmont.  Another $7 million was mentioned for renovations. Voter approval is not required for COs.

Resident comments at that meeting included protest of the large increase in costs for use of the Recreation Center, the no-turn signs at Newcastle and Bellaire Blvd, and demolition of the wastewater treatment plant. Watch the meeting here. (This sale was under contract since October 22, 2024, but not one word of this was mentioned in open City Council until the December Council meeting.)

UPDATE 12/10/2024: Interesting Workshop meeting on 12/9/2024. Part of the issue is the age of the plant and the lack of maintenance, part is the subsidence.  Several speakers mentioned flood walls.

A Public Workshop will be held to discuss the future of the Bellaire Wastewater Treatment Plant on Monday, December 9, 2024, at 6 PM.

UPDATE 12/3/2024: There was strong public comment at the December 2, 2024, Council meeting on the demolition of Bellaire’s wastewater treatment, plans for Cypress Ditch, and the new 4-way stop signs (which includes a 50-year old traffic ordinance). Comments begin about 55 minutes into the meeting, and makes one appreciate living in Bellaire.
